SWAT-T Tourniquet
Stretch. Wrap. Tuck. For the limbs other tourniquets can't fit.
Most tourniquets are built for adult arms and legs. The SWAT-T is a wide, stretchy band with no buckle and no windlass, so it can be wrapped down to fit almost any size limb, including the smallest ones. That makes it the go to tourniquet for dogs and for very young children.
Recommended for K9 bleeding control
The Joint Trauma System's K9 Tactical Combat Casualty Care (K9TCCC) Guidelines, the standard for U.S. military working dogs, name a stretchable elastic tourniquet such as the SWAT-T as the only type of tourniquet that should be considered for massive limb bleeding in a dog. Human windlass tourniquets generally don't work well on a dog's leg. If you ride or travel with your dog, this is the tourniquet to carry for them.
Built for the smallest limbs
Pediatric TCCC guidance notes that military tourniquets generally work on children about 2 years and older. For younger children and limbs smaller than about 5 inches around, it calls for an elastic bandage wrapped tightly instead. The SWAT-T's wide elastic band is designed to do exactly that kind of wrap, so you're covered for the littlest riders and passengers too.
Why riders choose the SWAT-T
- Fits almost any limb: Wraps down tight on small arms and legs and on dogs, where most windlass tourniquets run out of adjustment.
- Three tools in one: Use it as a tourniquet for life threatening bleeding, a pressure dressing over gauze, or an elastic wrap for sprains and splints.
- Reaches higher on the limb: The flexible band can be applied higher toward the groin and armpit than many rigid tourniquets.
- Built in stretch guide: Printed shapes on the band change form when it's stretched enough, giving you a visual check on tension.
- Flat and light: Rolls flat and weighs about 4 oz, so it slips into a tank bag, a tail section, a jacket pocket, or a dog walking bag.
- Tough and latex free: Synthetic rubber that holds up to heat and cold.
An honest note on choosing
The SWAT-T is best applied to someone else. It is difficult to put on your own arm, and it takes more practice than a windlass tourniquet to get the tension right. It is not on the CoTCCC list of recommended tourniquets for adults, so for your own primary tourniquet we recommend a CoTCCC recommended windlass tourniquet such as the C-A-T®, SAM XT, SOF-T, or TMT. Then add a SWAT-T to cover your dog, small children, and anyone with smaller limbs. Together they cover almost anyone you might need to help.

How it's used as a tourniquet
For life threatening bleeding from an arm or leg:
- Call 911, or have someone call for you.
- Stretch the band hard, until the printed shapes change form.
- Keeping it stretched, wrap it around the limb above the wound, between the wound and the heart, overlapping each layer, until the bleeding stops.
- Tuck the end under the last wrap to secure it.
- Note the time it was applied and leave it in place for EMS.
For dogs: Start with firm direct pressure on the wound. Use the SWAT-T as a tourniquet only if pressure isn't stopping life threatening limb bleeding, and call your nearest emergency veterinarian on the way.
Important
Once used on a real injury, replace it. A tourniquet is a tool, not training. Practice the stretch and tuck before you ever need it, and consider a hands on bleeding control course such as Stop the Bleed. Once applied in a real emergency, do not loosen or remove it; leave that to medical or veterinary professionals. This product does not replace professional medical or veterinary care. Always call emergency services.
